Town Meeting—Itchin’ to Run for Office?

If you’ve been pondering the possibility of running for office at the next Town Meeting, here’s what you need to know. Also see the Dec.6 post about getting and Article listed on the Meeting warning.

  • Petitions and Consent forms are available at Town Clerk’s Office.
  • The completed petitions must be returned to the Town Clerk’s Office by 4 pm. on Monday, January 30, 2006 in order for the candidate names to be placed on the March ballot.
  • Petitions for office need to have signatures of one percent of the registered voters in town—at least 7 valid (registered voter) signatures are needed. It is better to have more.

Here are the seats which will be up for election in March:

  • Moderator—One 1-Yr Term
  • Town Clerk—One 1-Yr Term
  • Treasurer—One 1-Yr Term
  • Trustee Of Pub. Funds—One 1-Yr Term
  • Selectboard—
    Two 1-Yr Terms
    One 2-Yr Term
    One 3-Yr Term
  • School Directors—
    One 3-Yr Term
    Two 2-Yr Terms
  • Water Commissioners—One 3-Yr Term
  • Listers—
    One 3-Yr Term
    One 2-Yr Term
  • Library Trustees—
    One 5-Yr Term
    One 2-Yr Term
    One 1-Yr Term
  • UHS Director—One 3-Yr Term
  • Planning Commission—Two 4-Yr Terms
  • Constable—One 1-Yr Term
  • Delinquent Tax Collector—One 1-Yr Term
  • Town Agent—One 1-Yr Term
  • Grand Jurors—Two 1-Yr Terms
  • Auditors—
    One 3-Yr Term
    One 2-Yr Term
    One 1-Yr Term
