Platt Offers Summer Programs

Saturday, June 17 is a busy day! Our 4th Annual Pet Show at 12:30 with loads of fun and prizes, and a great Plant Sale in the morning from 8 to noon to benefit the building fund.

Bed Time Story Hour—something new this summer! Monday evenings from 7 to 7:40PM on June 26, July 3 & 17, August 7 & 21—Families come to the library in PJs for bedtime stories and quiet songs, then drift off home to bed.

Saturday Afternoon Movie Matinee, 12–2PM—The movies will be announced; the dates are: June 24, July 22, and August 12.

Saturday, August 19th—"Jennings and Ponder" come for a family picnic on the library lawn. These performers are great! They do original treatments of world folktales, accompanying their live Celtic music with harp and concertina.

In addition to the above programs and events:

  • the Adult Reading Group continues to meet monthly on the 3rd Wednesday at 7PM. The selection for the current reading can be picked up at the library.
  • The Young Adult Reading Group meets on July 3, 17, and August 7 for a newer take on the King Arthur legend. There are three books in the series by Kevin Crossley-Holland that we'll be reading: The Seeing Stone, At The Crossing Places, and The King of Middle March.

Programs for Primary Grades:

  • Monday, July 10Mad Hatter Tea Party, 1 to 2:30. Make crazy hats, have a tea party with treats, fun teacup races.
  • Monday, July 24Chess Tournament, 1 'til done. We will NOT be following official rules, but there will be structure so it mimics a real tournament. In addition there will be instructional time for beginners.
  • Monday, August 14Medieval Day, 1 to 2:20. There will be three activity tables at this program: make "Stained Glass" from construction paper and tissue paper; make a Medieval Village—small wading pool with sand and lots of things for building a "traditional" castle and keep; make Rubbings of different items.
